Vinny V is a drum bass DJ and producer from Birmingham, UK.
Growing up in a very musical family and household meant that Vinny was surrounded by music from a young age.
From the get go, Vinny was immediately drawn to anything that made a sound or a noise. Playing drums in school quickly progressed to his first set of turntables.
From that point on he took any and every opportunity to play on them, spinning the vinyl everywhere he could from local youth centres to friends’ house parties – any chance to play for people and spend time with friends playing music was awesome.
Being always surrounded by music, Vinny was drawn to dance and electronic sounds of dance music, but drum bass was never far away.
Vinny bought some classics to get started on his turntables, hunting out vinyls at places like Hard to Find Records and Tempus Records in Birmingham, finding classics such as Slamming vinyl album, Nicky Blackmarket’s Rollin albums and Valley of the Shadows by Origin Unknown…and he never looked back!
Certain tunes resonate and still a favourite to this day is LK by DJ Marky XRS. Vinny went out to buy it on CD, listened to it when he got in, and then got straight back on the bus into town to get the vinyl so he could play it at a house party that weekend.
Vinny got his extra drum bass education from going to events up and down the country, hitting Hospitality and RAM records events, and seeing live artists like Andy C, Annie Mac, Jaguar Skills, Nero, Chase and Status and Sub Focus.
Seeing and hearing that level of drum bass live with a crowd was the turning point where Vinny saw the positivity and energy that came from these artists’ sounds and knew this was what he wanted to create himself.
And so it’s a combination of all the sounds over the decades that have influenced his music to date, testing himself and exploring a whole range of sub-genres. From liquid to jungle, to the electronic sounds of Sub Focus and Wilkinson, to the classic Amen Break and Chase Status and the positive summer vibes from DJ Marky, Vinny V’s drum and bass passion spreads across the subgenres.
